Celebrating Our Host Mothers!

This weekend is Mother’s Day, and we want to take a moment to celebrate our host mothers!

Our host mothers play an incredibly important role in the lives of our students. They provide much more than a comfortable place to live. Below is a snapshot of our amazing host mothers and the ways they commit to loving their students and making them a part of their lives:

  • Host mothers are generous in spirit, committing to help raise another mother’s child for a time.
  • Host mothers are a bridge between their student’s culture and their own.
  • Host mothers quickly adapt to becoming cultural translators and English teachers.
  • Host mothers provide emotional support when culture shock sets in or when homesickness creates challenges.
  • Host mothers are flexible, balancing the needs of their household while adapting to the needs of their student, making them part of the family, and earning their trust.
  • Host mothers facilitate memory making and crossing off bucket list items, providing once-in-a lifetime experiences for their students.
  • Host mothers provide transportation so that their students can participate in extra-curricular activities.

Host mothers are often the unsung heroes of a student’s experience, but their impact on their student’s life lasts far beyond the time they spend in her home. To all of our host mothers, we CELEBRATE you and THANK YOU for being an integral part of AHLI’s ministry and our students’ lives.
