Show Your Host Mom You Care on Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 10, 2026. It’s an important day to show your host mom you appreciate her and all she’s done for you this year. Take the time to tell her how much you appreciate all the things she’s done for you this year. This doesn’t have to be expensive or extravagant. Here are a few ideas:

  • Give her a card and write about a favorite memory you have with her from this year and tell her how much you appreciate how much she does for you and the family.
  • Write her a poem or a letter that tells her how special you think she is.
  • Create a collage of pictures of your fun times together.
  • Paint a picture or draw something for her. If you have host siblings, do a collage of all your handprints together with the date on it. She’ll have this forever to remember you by!
  • Make her favorite breakfast, lunch or dinner so she can sit back and enjoy the meal.
  • Do an activity with her and the rest of your family, so you can create more memories with her.
  • Do all the chores for her for a week like laundry, cleaning and yard work to show her you appreciate all she does to keep your home clean and cared for. While you’re doing the chores, send her out by herself for some “me time” or an afternoon with her girl friends to give her the day off from her household responsibilities.

As you can see, none of these ideas are expensive because for moms all over the world the things that mean the most to them are typically thoughtful things that save them time or activities they can do with you. Moms spend a lot of time taking care of you and making sure you have everything you need. Moms are notoriously sentimental, so showing her how much you care will mean the world to her.

Exodus 20:12 says, “Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”  Take this day to honor your host mother and care for her in the ways she cares for you every day.

Happy Mother’s Day!
