Welcome new and returning students! This year is a special opportunity. You will go to an American school, live with a host family, meet new people, and learn about a new culture.
Some days will be easy and fun. Other days may be hard. Give yourself time to adjust and learn. Here are simple ways to make the most of your experience:
10 Ways to Have a Great Student Experience
- Try new things. Join a club, play a sport, or go to a school event.
- Talk to people. Say hello and introduce yourself to your classmates and teachers.
- Practice English. Be brave and speak English. Learn from mistakes!
- Spend time with your host family. Ask questions, help around the house, and join family activities.
- Make new friends. Be friendly and open to meeting people who are different from you.
- Learn about American culture. Try new foods, learn about American holidays, and enjoy local traditions.
- Share your culture. Tell your friends and host family about your country, traditions, food, and language.
- Say yes to opportunities. If your host family or school invites you to do something, have fun and try it.

- Enjoy every day. Take pictures, make memories, and enjoy this special time in your life.
Be Ready to Learn and Grow
Your student experience is more than going to school, seeing new places and meeting people. It is about learning and growing. You will learn more about American culture, but you will also learn more about yourself.
Be curious. Ask questions. Try new things. Be patient with yourself and others.
Most of all, enjoy your experience!
